Trauma often teaches us to measure success by enduramce alone - getting through the day, managing the crisis, staying afloat... When your nervous system has spent years scanning for danger, calm can feel unfamiliar. Silence can feel suspicious. Rest can feel irresponsible. Happiness can feel temporary. Safety can feel like something that can disappear at any moment. One of the quietest heartbreaks in trauma recovery is believing you should be healed by now.
